Lessons in Greenwich

Your Local Instructorin Greenwich

Greenwich is one of the busiest and most varied areas we cover. KGS teaches automatic lessons in Greenwich from our base a few miles east in Plumstead, and the borough’s mix of historic streets, riverside traffic and major routes makes it an excellent place to build real-world driving skills.

Driving in Greenwich town centre means dealing with one-way systems, narrow historic streets, coaches, visitors crossing near the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Park, and heavy traffic on routes like Romney Road and Trafalgar Road. Learning here, with an instructor beside you, prepares you for almost anything London can throw at you.

Lessons are always taught by Satnam Singh Cheema in an automatic car, and the 2-hour minimum gives time to settle in before tackling the busier parts of Greenwich.

Who we teach in Greenwich

Greenwich pupils often book refresher lessons after years of relying on public transport, or nervous driver lessons to overcome a fear of busy streets. Many international licence holders living in Greenwich also want help adapting to UK roads.

Beginners in Greenwich usually start on the quieter residential roads in East Greenwich before moving on to the town centre and main routes.

Driving Challengesin Greenwich

One-way systems

Greenwich town centre’s one-way streets require early lane choice and careful reading of signs.

Visitor traffic

Tourists, coaches and pedestrians near the Cutty Sark and park entrances demand constant awareness.

Romney Road and Trafalgar Road

Busy main routes with buses, cyclists and frequent crossings help you practise observation and planning.

Blackwall Tunnel approaches

Fast, heavy traffic around the A102 gives experienced learners practice on major routes.

Cycle lanes

Greenwich has many cyclists and cycle lanes, so you learn to give space and check carefully before turning.

Why KGS

Why Learners in GreenwichChoose KGS

One instructor, every lesson

KGS Driving School is an independent, one-instructor school. You learn with Satnam Singh Cheema from your first lesson to your last, so you never have to explain your progress to someone new or adjust to a different teaching style halfway through. He knows what you have covered, what you find difficult and what to focus on next.

Lessons adapted to you

Satnam is known for a calm, patient and helpful approach. Rather than following a rigid script, he adapts each lesson to the way you learn, building a personalised plan around your experience, progression and abilities. As one pupil put it, he approaches teaching in many ways to adapt to each learner.

Time to actually learn

Every lesson lasts at least 2 hours. Shorter lessons often end just as you settle in. Two hours gives you time to warm up, learn something new and practise it until it starts to feel natural, which makes better use of every pound you spend.

Prices you can see

Prices are shown openly: £38 per hour on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, and £40 per hour after 5pm and at weekends. A prepaid 10-hour block saves £15. Payment is by bank transfer at least 4 days before each lesson, so there is never any confusion on the day.

Trusted and checked

Satnam is fully DBS checked and teaches pupils of all ages from 17 upwards. Parents booking lessons for a son or daughter, and adults learning later in life, can feel reassured about who is sitting beside them in the car.

Automatic only

Why Learn inan Automatic

Every KGS lesson is taught in an automatic car. With no clutch to control and no gears to change, you can give your full attention to the road: observation, positioning, speed and planning ahead. For many learners, especially nervous drivers and people returning after a break, this makes driving feel far more manageable.

Passing your test in an automatic car gives you a licence to drive automatic cars only. For most drivers this is no longer a real limitation. Automatic, hybrid and electric cars are increasingly common on UK roads, and many new cars are now sold as automatics only.

Automatic cars are also well suited to London driving. Stop-start traffic, busy junctions and hill starts are simpler when the car handles the gears for you, leaving you calmer and more focused in exactly the situations where concentration matters most.

“Just passed my driving practical today, was very happy and I would like to spread the word that Satnam my instructor is very good at what he does. He approaches teaching in many ways to adapt to your experience, progression and abilities. I would like to say thank you, and recommend those who are looking for an instructor to try Satnam at KGS Driving School!”
