Lessons in Woolwich

Your Local Instructorin Woolwich

Woolwich sits right beside our Plumstead base, so it is one of the areas we teach in most. Lessons in Woolwich are taught by the same instructor every time, Satnam Singh Cheema, in an automatic car, from a school that is only minutes away.

Woolwich has changed a great deal in recent years. The Royal Arsenal developments, the Elizabeth line station and new housing have brought more traffic, more pedestrians and new road layouts into the town centre. Learning here means learning to handle exactly the kind of busy, modern urban driving you will face across London.

Because we are so close, lessons can often begin near your home in Woolwich, and longer 2-hour lessons give you time to move from quieter streets to the town centre in the same session.

Who we teach in Woolwich

Woolwich learners often want help with confidence in heavy traffic: buses, cyclists, pedestrians and one-way systems all in one place. Many are busy professionals and students fitting lessons around commutes, who want to make every 2-hour lesson count.

We also teach plenty of Woolwich residents who are returning to driving or who hold a licence from another country and want to adapt to UK roads before driving alone.

Driving Challengesin Woolwich

Town-centre traffic

Woolwich town centre is busy with buses, delivery vehicles and pedestrians. You learn to scan widely, plan ahead and keep calm in slow, stop-start traffic.

Bus lanes and bus stops

With many bus routes passing through, you practise reading bus lane signs and times, and safely passing buses pulling in and out of stops.

Pedestrian crossings

Busy shopping streets mean frequent zebra and signal-controlled crossings. You learn to approach at the right speed and anticipate people stepping out.

Woolwich Road and the A206

Faster, wider roads leading west towards Charlton and Greenwich help you build up speed and practise lane discipline.

New developments

Newer streets around the riverside have modern layouts, cycle lanes and parking bays that are great for practising manoeuvres.

Why KGS

Why Learners in WoolwichChoose KGS

One instructor, every lesson

KGS Driving School is an independent, one-instructor school. You learn with Satnam Singh Cheema from your first lesson to your last, so you never have to explain your progress to someone new or adjust to a different teaching style halfway through. He knows what you have covered, what you find difficult and what to focus on next.

Lessons adapted to you

Satnam is known for a calm, patient and helpful approach. Rather than following a rigid script, he adapts each lesson to the way you learn, building a personalised plan around your experience, progression and abilities. As one pupil put it, he approaches teaching in many ways to adapt to each learner.

Time to actually learn

Every lesson lasts at least 2 hours. Shorter lessons often end just as you settle in. Two hours gives you time to warm up, learn something new and practise it until it starts to feel natural, which makes better use of every pound you spend.

Prices you can see

Prices are shown openly: £38 per hour on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, and £40 per hour after 5pm and at weekends. A prepaid 10-hour block saves £15. Payment is by bank transfer at least 4 days before each lesson, so there is never any confusion on the day.

Trusted and checked

Satnam is fully DBS checked and teaches pupils of all ages from 17 upwards. Parents booking lessons for a son or daughter, and adults learning later in life, can feel reassured about who is sitting beside them in the car.

Automatic only

Why Learn inan Automatic

Every KGS lesson is taught in an automatic car. With no clutch to control and no gears to change, you can give your full attention to the road: observation, positioning, speed and planning ahead. For many learners, especially nervous drivers and people returning after a break, this makes driving feel far more manageable.

Passing your test in an automatic car gives you a licence to drive automatic cars only. For most drivers this is no longer a real limitation. Automatic, hybrid and electric cars are increasingly common on UK roads, and many new cars are now sold as automatics only.

Automatic cars are also well suited to London driving. Stop-start traffic, busy junctions and hill starts are simpler when the car handles the gears for you, leaving you calmer and more focused in exactly the situations where concentration matters most.

“Just passed my driving practical today, was very happy and I would like to spread the word that Satnam my instructor is very good at what he does. He approaches teaching in many ways to adapt to your experience, progression and abilities. I would like to say thank you, and recommend those who are looking for an instructor to try Satnam at KGS Driving School!”
